London Fire Brigade Fire Engineering Group (FEG) members have committed to walk a combined 1,000 miles in March to fundraise for Macmillan Cancer Support
Over the past year a number of the team have been directly impacted by cancer and recognise what a vital role charities like Macmillan play in supporting both individuals and families.
Lynsey Seal’s dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in March last year and her father-in-law had a cancer relapse in October. Lynsey explained the vital role of Macmillan: ‘Throughout my dad’s treatment he had regular sessions programmed in with the Macmillan nurses who offered support and were happy to explain aspects of his treatment plan and anything else he wanted to ask about – I’m really grateful for the service that they offer people at what can be a really scary time and that this support has remained in place at a time when many have to face their treatment sessions alone due to the Covid restrictions in place at hospitals.’
FEG are committing to walk, collectively, a total of 2,000,000 steps in March, which equates roughly to 1,000 miles. We’d appreciate any support you might be able to provide us – encouragement or, if possible, donations which will go to help Macmillan continue their valuable work.
It must be noted that this fundraising effort is not an official London Fire Brigade charity initiative but simply some fundraising that the team are undertaking.
