MDM Director Dave Staddon and Group Editor Duncan White were hosted at RISE in Boras, Sweden by RISE Marketing Manager Fredrik Rosen during their recent visit.
The visit saw the MDM treated to a VIP behind the scenes tour of the state of the art test facilities prior to meetings to explore a collaboration between the two organisations.
RISE institutes Innventia, SP, and Swedish ICT who have merged, in order to become a stronger research and innovation partner. Through their international collaboration programmes with academia, industry, and the public sector, RISE ensure the competitiveness of the Swedish business community on an international level and contribute to a sustainable society.
Their 2,200 employees support and promote all manner of innovative processes, and the 100 testbeds and demonstration facilities are instrumental in developing the future-proofing of products, technologies, and services. RISE is fully owned by the Swedish state.
The RISE Safety and Transport division has cutting-edge expertise within everything from mechanical risks to measurement technology and fire protection. The RISE Safety and Transport division works with testing, inspection, calibration and certification and has world-class laboratories for fire and high-voltage and EMC. In addition, RISE has AstaZero which is the world’s first full-scale test environment for future road safety. This unique facility with its different traffic environments makes it possible to test advanced safety systems and their functions for all kinds of traffic and traffic situations (www.astazero.com).
Future expansion will see the introduction of the AWITAR – Automotive Wireless Test and Research Facility which will become a world-leading test and research facility for wireless communication systems and EMC for e.g. autonomous vehicles and active safety systems.
The RISE Fire Research Division is active in research, fire safety engineering, support to national and international legislation, offshore safety, risk analysis, testing, certification, inspection and so on. The group works globally.
RISE perform theoretical analyses of the growth of fires and the spread of smoke as well as calculations of temperatures in structures exposed to fire. Performing third-party review of fire safety design, while working actively in the EU with regulations whilst developing technical solutions for assessment of products and systems.
RISE Fire Research has an extensive network of contacts for example in CEN (European standardization), ISO (international standardization), EGOLF (European official laboratories), FORUM of Fire Research Directors, SFPE (Society of Fire Protection Engineers), Fire Sector Group of Notified Bodies.
The activities of the Fire Research Division are presented in their magazine, Brandposten which is published twice a year in Swedish/Norwegian and English.
