In response to two high-profile home fires this month, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has added a Special Live Event: Taking the Lead after Tragedy to the beginning of its FREE virtual Leadership for Emergency Responders conference on Tuesday, 25 January 2022.
The newly added exchange will feature NFPA President and CEO Jim Pauley facilitating a discussion with top-tier fire service leaders about the fire incidents that occurred in Pennsylvania and New York earlier this month and steps that can be taken to strengthen fire prevention, fire protection, life safety, code enforcement and other critical safety programs. The following leaders will join Pauley for this forward-thinking talk:
- Dr Lori Moore-Merrell, US Fire Administrator
- Adam Thiel, Fire Commissioner for the City of Philadelphia
- Joseph Jardin, Assistant Chief with the New York City Fire Department, Chief of Fire Prevention
‘As we often see with catastrophes, there were breakdowns in the Ecosystem that not only precipitated the fatal events in Philadelphia and the Bronx but compounded them. In the aftermath of these incidents, there have been pressing questions about how we can help connect the dots on safety at this pivotal moment in time,’ Pauley said, referring to the NFPA Fire & Life Safety Ecosystem, a framework that features eight interconnected components that must work together in the interest of safety. ‘In response, NFPA is inviting three of today’s foremost fire authorities to take part in a live exchange that will focus on persistent fire-safety challenges and what can be done to enhance safety.’
The Special Live Event: Taking the Lead after Tragedy will begin at 9:00am (ET) on Tuesday, 25 January. This live leadership conversation is the perfect complement to a well-rounded educational line-up that has already attracted close to 2,000 fire service officers, future commanders, emergency responders, and other up-and-comers interested in becoming better community partners. Pre-registration is required to view the live discussion (and attend the full-day professional development programme). All registrants will have access to the full line-up of sessions on-demand for up to one year and can earn 11 continuing education units (CEUs) upon successful completion of all the available programmes.
