Roll grooving creates cleaner, safer jobsites for customers and has been accepted and utilized in pipe sized above 1-inch due to the ease of installation. Victaulic’s Innovative Groove System™ (IGS) RG2100 Roll Grooving Tool creates the same reliability and ease of installation for small diameter 1-inch pipe. The RG2100 Roll Grooving Tool is the first-of-its-kind tool that forms a Victaulic IGS groove into either Schedule 10 or Schedule 40 1-inch pipe.
With up to 55 percent less pipe preparation in comparison to threading, roll grooving creates a fast and mess free solution, consistently forming the IGS groove to specification every time. The innovative tool eliminates measuring and adjustment by the operator, reducing training, instruction time and cost on the job site. It utilizes a one-touch actuation to form a groove compared to a hands-on process to oil and cut thread. Victaulic’s IGS products can be used to create hard-pipe sprigs, pendants, and arm-overs, without using a wrench or threading dies.
Eric Melanson, Superior Fire Inc. – fire sprinkler foreman said, “Normally we’d do a threaded 1-inch pipe all throughout the building but we’re trying out grooved 1-inch. It’s a lot faster with less machine work and less errors. Compared to threading it’s saved a lot of time on the machine. We could see using this type of tool on jobs in the future to save cost and time. The tool itself – anybody can use it. First day on the job I think you’d be able to see how it’s used once and you really can’t mess it up.”
The RG2100 Roll Grooving Tool eliminates the need for a threading machine. It takes the guess work out of pipe preparation. The Roll Grooving Tool mounts on a power drive, allowing users to cut, ream and groove 1-inch pipe in 35 seconds or less compared to over 70 seconds to thread pipe.
Joseph Garcia, Superior Fire Inc. – fire sprinkler fitter said, “The threading machine we were using before worked but the unfortunate thing is it took a lot more time. People were waiting for the machine to produce what it needed to but that could only go as fast as the person using it. With the new machine, it’s a lot faster. It’s a lot more convenient, we’re not having people waiting for the machine. It’s so much faster that it’s like a production, it’s just going one after another. We’re able to use one button push so everything goes perfectly. It’s a lot smoother and faster. Having one push instead of sitting there and cranking the machine is a lot more efficient for myself and my other pipe fitters.”
The combination of the RG2100 tool with an Installation-Ready™ elbow allows customers to install a grooved elbow twice as fast as a threaded one. Since roll grooving removes no metal from the pipe, customers can utilize Schedule 10 pipe throughout their entire system with increased corrosion resistance, improving the hydraulic flow as well as decreasing both the weight and cost of pipe.
The RG2100 tool eliminates wear-and-tear on fitters, and the oil drippings and shavings due to threading. The portable tool can be moved throughout jobsites without worry of spreading the mess associated with oil, increasing productivity. The formed roll groove maintains pipe thickness, improving corrosion resistance, providing a comprehensive grooved solution for installers on any sprinkler system.
